Georgetown
Narrow Guage Railroad
In the 1860's, the mountains between Georgetown and Silver
Plume established the area as one of the great silver-producing regions
in the world. Soon a railroad had been built from Denver to Golden and
up the mountains to Georgetown.
The challenge was to connect the rail from Georgetown to Silver Plume,
which had to climb 600 ft. in just 2 miles. The project was complete
in 1884 after one of the most famous engineering masterpieces
The Devil's Gate High Bride was finished.
You can ride the same rail line starting in Georgetown and tour an
actual Silver mine at the top.
